Remembering the First Thanksgiving - (Archived)

Rather than braving the winter storm that is bearing down on the East Coast, perhaps this time is best spent learning about the first Thanksgiving holiday.

Although Thanksgiving is a holiday that is often overshadowed by consumerism and news stories about how ‘Black Friday’ gauges the health of our economy, there is much more to this holiday.

Forbes Magazine pointed out how President George Washington issued a historic Thanksgiving Proclamation on October 3, 1798, which created the first Thanksgiving holiday.  Though as the article highlights, this may have not been the first Thanksgiving holiday for our great nation.

In the meantime, if you are choosing to skip traveling today, we hope you enjoy learning more about this special holiday.  Be sure to check out the full article here.

We wish you a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday and we will resume publishing on December 2, 2013.
