L-3 Communications won a $30 million contract from the U.S. Coast Guard to install next-generation mission system suites in two C-130J aircraft. The U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy jointly developed the government-owned mission system, which operates across multiple platforms. The total value of the contract, awarded in early October, is about $93 million with all options exercised. L-3 Platform Integration in Waco, Texas, will perform the work.
Under the five-year contract, L-3 will integrate mission systems on two baseline C-130J long-range surveillance aircraft. The contract’s multiple options include performing the same work on three similar aircraft and converting seven HC-130J aircraft. L-3 will produce, install, test and deliver the mission system on each aircraft. It has performed similar work for the U.S. Navy.
“We are excited to extend our C-130 missionization experience to the U.S. Coast Guard fleet,” said Mark Von Schwarz, president of the L-3 Aerospace Systems business segment. “Our team’s experience with the C-130 platform and this mission system will be important in delivering these aircraft that will improve the long-range surveillance capabilities for the U.S. Coast Guard.”
L-3 Platform Integration has delivered hundreds of C-130 aircraft, performing mission and weapon systems integration, avionics modernization, and heavy structural refurbishment for customers that include the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Special Operations Command and international C-130 operators.
This new contract expands L-3’s work with the U.S. Coast Guard. The company provides communications systems design and production work, C4ISR integration equipment and services, and information assurance expertise to several platforms, including the Offshore Patrol Cutter, Fast Response Cutter and National Security Cutter. L-3 also provides information assurance and integrated communications products and sustainment work for Coast Guard command centers, and supports legacy cutter upgrade initiatives.
For its continued delivery of state-of-the-art communication and electronic systems and products used on military and commercial platforms, L-3 has earned a FedPulse winning contractor commendation.
