QinetiQ North America is a leading government contractor with more than 5,300 employees who are helping advance the government’s mission. The term QinetiQ actually comes from a Chinese concept that symbolizes inner strength and energy that ties in the idea of networking and intelligence.
The company originally started in 2001 when the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense, Defense Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) privatized its laboratories and test ranges. In 2004, it acquired both Westar and Foster-Miller in the U.S., which ultimately created QinetiQ North America.
Over the past 10 years, the company has established a significant presence in the U.S., and has become a proven partner for both industry and government. This was reflected in 2013 with a series of significant contract wins, despite the government shutdown and sequestration.
In September, QinetiQ North America announced that it was awarded a three-year, $10 million contract with Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) Systems Center (SSC), as well as a $20 million contract for its TALON® IV military robots, spares and training to support efforts in Iraq.
In 2013, it also enhanced its executive team by bringing on David Shrum as the General Manager of its Defense Solutions (DS) business unit. QinetiQ North America also appointed Dr. Andrew Rogers as its Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Technology Solutions (TS) business unit. Furthermore, Dr. Mark Hewitt was named Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, and Gary Slack was named President and COO.
In addition to contract wins and attracting top talent, QinetiQ North America is on the cutting-edge when it comes to next-generation government solutions. For example, in 2013, it achieved its Federal Risk Authorization and Management Program (FedRAMP) accreditation to evaluate cloud-based solutions for federal agencies.
QinetiQ North America also recently announced that it has extended its partnership with BroadSoft to develop unified communications services for federal, defense and intelligence customers. Through the partnership, the company will host the BroadCloud-based unified communications technology and expand existing offering of BroadSoft’s unified communications services.
For establishing a viable footprint in the U.S., expanding contract wins and achieving FedRAMP accreditation, we are pleased to announce that QinetiQ North America is this week’s “Winning Contractor.”
