On August 1, 2014 URS Corporation announced the U.S. Department of Defense Information Analysis Centers Enterprise for defense systems technical area tasks awarded the company an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity, multiple award contract. The company is one of twelve awardees, and the approximate maximum aggregate value of the contract, which has a one-year base period and four one-year option periods, is $3 billion.
Under the terms of the contract, URS will lead a team of 40 subcontractors that can compete for or be awarded task orders to provide research, development, test and evaluation, and advisory and assistance services related to research and development efforts for technical area tasks within the DoD’s three new Information Analysis Centers. Task orders may include research and analysis on the survivability and vulnerability of military weapons, military sensing and weapon systems, and directed energy weapons.
Headquartered in San Francisco, and with more than 50,000 employees in a network of offices in nearly 50 countries, URS Corporation is a leading provider of engineering, construction, and technical services for public agencies and private sector companies around the world. The company offers a range of program management; planning, design, and engineering; systems engineering and technical assistance; construction and construction management; operations and maintenance; management and operations; information technology; and decommissioning and closure services.
“This is an important award that further underscores URS’ expertise in technical research and analysis services. We look forward to growing our relationship with the U.S. Department of Defense through this assignment, and having the opportunity to support and enhance our nation’s critical defense system,” said Randall A. Wotring, President, Federal Services.
This contract win followed the July 11 announcement that AECOM Technology Corporation will acquire URS. This merger creates an industry-leading E&C company with broad global reach and enhanced ability to deliver integrated services to clients. The merger is expected to close in October 2014.
Said Martin M. Koffel, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer or URS: “We look forward to completing the compelling strategic combination with AECOM. The transaction will provide URS stockholders with significant, immediate value and the ability to participate in the future prospects of the combined company, which we expect will be even better positioned to compete for major, complex projects across a diverse range of end markets and geographic regions, and to capitalize on the growth opportunities across our markets.”
