Winning Contractor: Lockheed Martin to Centralize Australia’s Defense Data Centers

The Australian Government’s Department of Defence awarded a team of vendors, including Lockheed Martin Australia, an $800 million contract to provide centralized processing infrastructure and services. Lockheed Martin has been selected to lead the project, which aims to consolidate Defence’s infrastructure and applications to improve the efficiency and overall effectiveness of the department’s data centers. Defence and Lockheed Martin Australia will partner to deliver the transformed centralized processing environment, which will meet Defence capability requirements to 2022. Cybersecurity continues as a top-of-mind concern for the federal government. The list of threats is long—malware, external hacking, insider data leaks, to name just a few. Cyber threats cost the government and industry billions of dollars every year, and that fact is not likely to change. In a 2012 study, conducted on behalf of the Lockheed Martin Cyber Security Alliance, 85% of IT decision-makers rated cybersecurity as a high priority, well above other hot topics like mobile devices (39%), big data (27%) and cloud computing (26%). Winning Contractor: U.S. Department of Defense Awards URS Defense Systems Technical Area Contract

On August 1, 2014 URS Corporation announced the U.S. Department of Defense Information Analysis Centers Enterprise for defense systems technical area tasks awarded the company an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity, multiple award contract. The company is one of twelve awardees, and the approximate maximum aggregate value of the contract, which has a one-year base period and four one-year option periods, is $3 billion.
